Importance of the First Year

The importance of a first year at anything is key, it sets the foundation of that for the rest of your life. All fields always have a way to break a new person in; in the military it’s boot camp, in futurities its called hazing. In this book that we read, there are no push ups, running, or anything you might expect in boot camp, but there is a lot of trial and tribulation of the human spirit.

Scott endured long hours of studying hard to obtain the honor to attend such a prestige college such as Harvard Law School, but the work didn’t stop there. Once he became a 1 L his workload only increased, but he truly got to be a part of something great, that would follow him with honor for the rest of his life. Working hard at Harvard should not be a foreign concept to us.

Because we here at Evergreen State must too work hard for what we desire and so must anyone who has a goal they are trying to reach. We must all work hard to obtain our goal, whether it be; playing the guitar to try to be a rock star, practicing football to join the NFL, or to be a programmer to write the program of the year. We must all strive forward for greatness with pride as we move forward on the battleground we call life, and it all starts with the first year.
